Chris Oxtoby is an independent legal consultant and an adjunct senior lecturer in the Department of Public Law at the University of Cape Town. His work focuses on issues of judicial appointments and conduct, constitutionalism and the rule of law, and freedom of expression. He has worked on projects including the development of the Lilongwe Principles and Guidelines on the Selection and Appointment of Judicial Officers and monitoring the work of the South African Judicial Service Commission.
Chris holds a BScoSci and an LLB (cum laude) from the University of Cape Town, and an LLM from New York University. He is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa (non-practising roll).
