Withdrawal of SABC Bill

CFE has called on government to proceed with the formal gazetting of the SABC Bill’s withdrawal in line with the Constitution and the Rules of the National Assembly. “Any continued deliberation of the SABC Bill by Parliament  would be unlawful,” CFE said in a joint letter with  SOS Support Public Broadcasting, Media Monitoring Africa and the South African National Editors Forum to the Speaker of Parliament, the Parliamentary Committee and the Cabinet. Communications Minister Solly Malatsi recently withdrew the Bill, only for the Cabinet and Speaker to say that only the Cabinet could withdraw a Bill that had already been tabled.
