Katherine Elmer-English has just completed her fourth year of a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Media Studies at Rhodes University, specialising in Visual Communication. She aims to tell stories and convey powerful messages through engaging designs. During her time at Rhodes, Katherine was an active member of the student press and contributed to Grocott’s Mail. She is a strong advocate for freedom of the press and freedom of expression, believing that expression takes many forms and media, which she hopes to continue exploring in her future work.  

A collection of five T-shirts created as potential Speak Up SA merchandise. Using bold typography and the colours of the South African flag, the designs present clothing as an accessible medium for advocacy.

The work invites people to wear their support for free expression and turn everyday outfits into public statements.
